A minute-by-minute countdown does not mean that new departure data arrives every minute. PT Widgets combines timetables, operator predictions and iOS updates—and shows when the information has become old.

Four layers behind the word “live”
Scheduled time
The published timetable is the baseline and remains useful when a provider has no current prediction for a journey.
Expected time
When supplied, the operator's latest prediction drives the countdown and allows a delay to be represented without rewriting the timetable.
Last update
The board shows when its information is getting old, so you can tell when a departure should no longer be treated as fresh.
Change-triggered updates
For supported updates, PT Widgets can react to meaningful delay or disruption changes for stops or lines you enable. iOS still decides when the update appears.
What happens between two updates
The countdown keeps moving
PT Widgets uses the departure time to keep the minutes remaining current between updates. A changing countdown therefore does not necessarily mean that new operator data has arrived.
Opening or refreshing requests the latest data
Opening the app or pressing the widget refresh control requests a fresh board. Background and change-triggered updates depend on iOS and may arrive less predictably.
Live Activities follow one departure
You can follow one departure on the Lock Screen until it leaves or you stop tracking it. The countdown stays visible, while fresh predictions still depend on the operator and your connection.
What “live” does not guarantee
- The widget is not a guaranteed per-minute live feed. Update frequency depends on iOS, connectivity and the transport operator's data.
- A row labelled real time means an expected time was supplied; it does not guarantee vehicle GPS precision or a particular confidence interval.
- Provider outages, missing journey updates, poor connectivity and Low Power Mode can all leave the last valid board on screen.
- Platform or stop changes appear only when the transport operator provides them.
- Norwegian boards currently show departures but do not offer PT Widgets line disruption alerts; Vienna and Linz do support those alerts.

Set up a live departure board
The same setup works for a fixed stop and for an automatic nearest-favourite widget.

Save the stop or board in PT Widgets
Search for a station, open its departure board, and add it to your favourites. You can also create a combined board when several nearby stops belong to the same journey.

Add PT Widgets from the iOS widget gallery
Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen, choose Add Widget, search for PT Widgets, pick a size, and place it where it is useful at a glance.

Choose the source and presentation
Touch and hold the placed widget, choose Edit Widget, then select a fixed favourite or automatic-by-location mode. Filters and display design can be changed per widget.

Check freshness before relying on a departure
The countdown keeps moving between updates. Refresh when needed and check the real-time or stale-data indicator before leaving.

Why did the minutes change without a new refresh?
PT Widgets uses the departure time to keep the countdown moving between updates. This is expected and does not mean that new operator data has arrived.
When can a change-triggered update happen?
Supported widgets can react to significant delays or disruptions for enabled stops or lines. Delivery timing still depends on iOS.
What should I do when data is marked stale?
Use manual refresh or open the app. For a time-critical trip, verify against the operator's official channel when fresh data cannot be obtained.
